Julie Lester, artist
I didn’t know I could draw or paint. I only found out after I retired from work, and by accident. A friend of my daughter had a life drawing class instead of the usual pre-wedding party and I was invited to go along.
There was a very attractive male model, which I hadn’t expected, but I coped! I took my drawing home and fiddled with it for days.
Unbeknownst to me, my husband apparently decided it was OK, so he went out and booked me into an art course for my birthday (66th, as it happens). And I have gone on from there.
It is the most satisfying occupation and I love it.
